Title: Suicide Prevention Programming for College-Aged Adults

Abstract:

Global rates of suicide among adolescents and young adults continue to increase. Suicide prevention efforts that focus on strategies to reduce risk in this age group often help peers to recognize risk factors and warning signs for suicide. In this presentation, the Director of The Ohio State University (OSU) Suicide Prevention Program discusses the major components of a comprehensive campus suicide prevention program that involves the entire university in a large-scale, public health approach to suicide prevention. The program, which has been in existence for 15 years, is the largest campus suicide prevention program in the U.S.. It uses a partnership approach to help create a Campus Culture of Care where students, faculty, and staff each understand that they have a role to play in suicide prevention. Those who watch this speech can learn more about each of the evidence-based components of the OSU Suicide Prevention Program as well as what they can do to begin to implement suicide prevention programming on their campuses.
